In a recent development, the Special Operations Command (COS) in France has emphasized the necessity for lighter drones, known as MAME (Medium Altitude Medium Endurance), to better suit their operational needs. While MALE (Medium Altitude Long Endurance) drones like the MQ-9A Reaper and the upcoming EuroDrone have their advantages, they often lack the flexibility required for COS missions.
For the past six years, the COS has been advocating for the introduction of MAME drones to establish an independent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capability. This move is aimed at enhancing their operational effectiveness.
